orbis, the flying eye hospital
This simulated project was for Orbis International, an international non-profit non-governmental organization dedicated to saving sight in developing countries around the world. Their unique feature is a Boeing aeroplane converted into a working hospital. Orbis also provides training for local teams, conduct extensive research on eye health and implement collaborative efforts with volunteers and partners as a form of advocacy.

We were tasked to create an advertising and donation campaign for the Singapore branch with a tagline, print collateral and ambient design.

A Miracle Comes In Many Forms
The print advertisement is based on the saying which goes, "Every cloud has a silver lining." For those who are in need of treatment, it may seem like their world has gone dark because they are unable to use their eyes like they are supposed to. Orbis graciously flies into their lives, clearing the dark skies as a beacon of hope. This metaphor is portrayed as an eye opening in the sky and the Orbis plane floating under its light in a myriad of colours. For them, Orbis is their miracle.
The ambient advertising can take place in the walkways of public spaces, such as the underground link around Orchard MRT. It is designed to look like the inside of an aeroplane and ambient lighting provides the feeling as though one is enclosed in a dark place. This will prompt one to lift up a plane shutter to let more light in and will be presented with information about Orbis and the flying hospital.

The audience is put into the shoes of those who are affected; being left in the dark does not have to be the only reality. Sometimes one just needs a reminder to take the initiative for change.
